When it comes to Delta Blues, it’s hard to think of anyone more gritty and raw than Son House, and “Death Letter Blues” is one of the best examples of his deep, powerful vibe. I love the reckless, percussive way he plays resonator, and his melodies and vocal style are full of emotion and inflection. When I arranged this for fingerstyle slide guitar, I wanted to include all of those qualities I love about Son House’s performances, and get that strong rhythm chug, that wild vibrato, and that Delta Blues grease!
