AdminKeymasterGuitarist.World came from an idea during lockdown when all live music had to stop almost overnight and everywhere…
I was a full time musician at the time, playing guitar and singing several nights a week with regular gigs alongside running open mics for the local music community.
Before that I was an online developer, everything from basic websites to e-commerce and community platforms. Many musicians turned to existing platforms such as facebook and youtube to try and keep the music going, but all had their limitations.
Youtube, was great for videos, but had very pushy algorythms with paid content being ‘suggested’ constantly. Catagories were almost non existant, as was most filtering.
Facebook on the other hand offered groups with a sense of community, but the bigger a group grew, the less functional and focused it became, often being flooded with spammers and scammers…
Both, were built to profit from paid content, constant adverts and a need to get everyone to scroll through endless unwanted content just to collect data to sell on.Hence the idea for a platform, just for Guitarists, just about Guitars.
No spam, no adverts, no data selling, no forced content.
Just quality content linking in with the existing platforms but delivery on a custom built site with full catagories, groups, filtering and more.
No corporate ownership, built by guitarists, for guitarists.
The idea was born and work began on Guitarist.World 🙂The first stage rollout needed to offer a fully catagorised video library, with channels and playlists for musicians.
Hosting all the videos on independent servers however would prove to cost a fortune and would sink the idea before it could launch.
So linking in with Youtube using their embed feature but in a user friendly way seemed the logical way forward.
Everyone wins, Views of videos on GW still count towards the original Youtube users view count and help with any monetization there, while GW ‘organises’ the videos in easy to find ways, and strips away all the adverts and forced content.Groups offer similar to the ones on Facebook, but with additional functionality such as Group Forums, allowing deeper discussion and more versatility.
More development is being done on Groups for the future including full integration with the Video library (see the ‘Ideas’ forum thread). To prevent spam and scammer content, the simplest way is to make GW a paid community… Not a monthly one, but a low low annual membership fee.
This allows ongoing full time development, covers the ongrowing running costs and allows GW to remain free from the ususal ways platforms make money such as constant spammy adverts and paid content…There is of course a FREE membership which allows to view everything.
FULL membership however gives unlimited site use.
It also allows users to become affiliates if they already have a large group they can bring along… Facebook Groups, Fans and Followers, Open Mic friends etc…
This allows Musiciains here to build up a passive recurring income stream, one that re-pays each year with membership renewal.
For each £15 yearly fee, £5 of that can become affiilate payments.
With some Guitarists having hundreds of thousands of followers on other social media playforms, even millions, its easy to see how GW can offer a new way to make an income as a Guitarist even just through existing content on other sites!See the ‘Affiliate Forum Thread’ for more info!
And finaly prizes….
You may hav seen other site running prize drawers, giving guitars and gear away for the prize of a raffle ticket and answering a simple question.
Well, GW wants to offer cash prizes as our membership grows so you can buy that Guitar or whatever you want from your local guitar store! For launch, all new Full Members automatically get awarded site points that can be used to purchase tickets to win a number of prizes 🙂
Again, see the ‘Prizes Forum Thread’ for more info! So, welcome to the first stage launch of Guitarist.World 🙂
Hopefully you will enjoy the site and being a part of the community.
Together we can build a community that truly gives back to its members.Have a look around, become a Full Member, and lets make somthing new, something for Guitarists everywhere 🙂
